Real Madrid's Jese suffers setback in recovery from knee surgery
Real Madrid announced Friday that electric attacker Jese, who has been out of action since mid-March after tearing the ACL in his right knee, has suffered a setback in his recovery from surgery.
The Spanish club released the following statement on the status of the 21-year-old, who was injured after a seemingly innocuous collision in a Champions League match against Schalke.
"Real Madrid player Jese Rodriguez will shortly travel to the Hessingpark-Clinic in Augsburg to undergo a medical revision with Dr Ulrich Boenisch after inflammation was detected in the operated knee, as well as a fever," a club statement confirmed.
Jese underwent the initial procedure to repair his damaged knee at the same clinic.
Prior to the devastating - and all too common - injury, the young winger was enjoying the richest spell of form in his Real Madrid career, scoring five goals in the six starts preceding the match against Schalke.
There were no expectations that Jese would be able to return at any point this season, but Madrid will be hopeful that this setback doesn't jeopardize his ability to be 100 percent healthy come the beginning of the 2014-15 campaign.
