Thomas Muller sets Champions League scoring record for German players

Thomas Muller stands alone.

The Bayern Munich star found the net in his club's 6-1 annihilation of FC Porto in Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final contest, and in the process became the highest-scoring German player in the history of the tournament.

Muller, still only 25, scored his 27th goal in the competition when his long-range strike took a wicked deflection before slipping under the legs of goalkeeper Fabiano late in the opening half at the Allianz Arena. 

As a result, he surpassed former teammate Mario Gomez, whose tally in Europe's premier club competition stands at 26.

"It was a world-class strike," Muller joked of the deflected effort after the match. "Like Hermann Gerland (Bayern's assistant coach) has always said: You don't think where to play the ball; just shoot into the goal."

Simply put. Fitting for a player who seems to accomplish everything on the pitch in the same manner.
