Carlos Tevez plays 1st game for Boca Juniors since return to boyhood club

Another chapter was written on Saturday in the story of Carlos Tevez's return to Boca Juniors.

Taking the pitch in front of a packed La Bombonera where all eyes were on him, Tevez took part in his first fixture since his return to his boyhood club was confirmed.

In an ideal world, the match, which saw Boca defeat Quilmes Atletico Club 2-1, would have involved Tevez scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute as supporters swarmed toward the fence that separates the pitch from the terraces.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, but he did flick the ball over an opponent's head with his first touch of the game and came close to scoring from a tight angle in the first half.

"We're getting to know each other still," said Tevez after Boca's win, according to Sam Kelly of ESPN FC. "We've only had this week to train together so far. The rest will come."

Meanwhile, Jonathan Calleri, who stole the show from Tevez by chipping Quilmes' 'keeper Walter Benitez with a game-winning rabona, had nothing but praise for his new teammate.

"Carlitos takes markers away from you," Calleri said. "He takes the pressure off you ... He gives it everything."

Tevez's next opportunity to score his first goal since returning to Boca will come on July 25 against Club Atletico Belgrano.
