VIDEOS: Wayne Rooney ends dry spell with hat trick versus Brugge
Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has ended any doubts over his goal-scoring form, notching three goals in his side's Champions League second-leg playoff win over Club Brugge.
Not to be outdone by his first effort, Rooney added a second after some smart passing by United's midfield. Memphis Depay found Ander Herrera at the edge of the box on the right, and the Spanish midfielder quickly snapped a low cross over to Rooney to tap home for a 2-0 lead (5-1 on aggregate).
Rooney was all smiles as the two celebrated together near the corner flag. Herrera would prove valuable once more, finding Juan Mata with a smart pass minutes later. Mata pierced the Brugge backline with a through pass, with Rooney latching onto the ball before slipping the shot past Sinan Bolat for the goal.
