VIDEO: Karim Benzema gifted a goal after shocking mistake by Shakhtar 'keeper
Reuters
Real Madrid opened the scoring in its first match in the UEFA Champions League group stage with a bit of a gift, as Karim Benzema pounced on a bad mistake by Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov.
Benzema found the back of the net on the half-hour mark, just minutes after Madrid midfielder Gareth Bale left the field with an apparent calf injury, giving his side a lead to build on at the Santiago Bernabeu.
His goal is rather welcome, too, after he missed an open net early in the half, shooting high after rounding Pyatov.
