Manchester United holds on to secure point against CSKA Moscow

Reuters

Manchester United clawed back to earn a stalemate against CSKA Moscow, with striker Anthony Martial scoring a powerful second-half header to secure a 1-1 draw in Russia.

Louis van Gaal's men conceded a penalty in the 15th minute when Martial handled the ball in the box. CSKA forward Roman Eremenko stepped up to take the spot kick, which David De Gea saved initially, but the ball bounced around for Seydou Doumbia, who finished a tap-in to give his side a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Martial made up for his error, though, equalizing in the 65th minute to give his team a point.

Both teams take home a point, but wanted two more as Wolfsburg tops Group B after defeating PSV Eindhoven 2-0. But, a draw was probably well-deserved as both sides remained level in chances created, with four attempts on target each.

Still, Manchester United is the better off of the two parties, as the Red Devils move into second, tied with Moscow at four points but holding the tiebreaker at the moment.

With three games left, Van Gaal will feel confident about his side's chances for qualification. Meanwhile, the Moscow manager might want to talk to his players about on-the-field behaviour, after watching an audacious dive by Pontus Wernbloom.
