Watch: Messi sends penalty into orbit in Copa America final shootout
Reuters
With his international legacy on the line, Lionel Messi's dream scenario turned into a nightmare as the Argentina star stepped up and missed his team's first penalty against Chile in the Copa America Centenario final.
In a strange decision, Messi took the first of Argentina's penalties, having never missed in a shootout for his country. The Barcelona man sent his shot flying high from the target in gut-wrenching fashion and walked away brokenhearted.
To be fair, Arturo Vidal had Chile's first penalty saved by Sergio Romero.
