Lewandowski to miss 4 weeks after injuring knee against Chelsea

Bayern Munich will be without Robert Lewandowski for the next four weeks after the club confirmed the prolific Polish striker suffered a knee injury in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Chelsea.

The timeline means Lewandowski, who leads both the Bundesliga and Champions League in scoring this season, will miss the second leg of Bayern's last-16 clash with the Blues on March 18.

Barring any setbacks, he should be fit ahead of the quarterfinals, assuming the Bavarian giants make good on their hefty first-leg advantage and advance to the last eight.

Lewandowski scored the last of Bayern's three goals Tuesday, bringing his Champions League tally on the campaign to 11 - one more than Borussia Dortmund phenom Erling Braut Haaland.

The 31-year-old played the full 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Manager Hansi Flick will likely turn to versatile veteran Thomas Muller in Lewandowski's absence. The 30-year-old German has played in various positions across the frontline throughout his career and should slot into a central role over the next month.

In addition to the return fixture against Chelsea, Lewandowski is expected to miss his side's upcoming matches against Hoffenheim, Schalke, Augsburg, Union Berlin, and Eintracht Frankfurt.
