Crystal Palace picks up Jaroslaw Jach from Zaglebie Lubin
Roy Hodgson isn't choosing household names to strengthen Crystal Palace's bid for survival.
Jaroslaw Jach joined the Eagles from Zaglebie Lubin on a three-and-a-half-year contract on Tuesday, becoming the first Polish-born player to ply his trade at Selhurst Park. The transfer fee was £1.2 million, sources told the Guardian's Marcus Christenson.
Jach follows Erdal Rakip to Crystal Palace, after the ex-Malmo midfielder moved on loan from Benfica on Monday.
The 23-year-old centre-back came through the ranks of minnow Lechia Dzierzoniow, a fourth-tier team hailing from the foot of Poland's Owl Mountains. His performances at this modest level encouraged Zaglebie to snap up the youngster in 2013.
He suffered relegation to I liga in his first season, but helped the club to an instant top-flight return the following campaign. The sale of Maciej Dabrowski to Legia Warsaw early in the 2016-17 term freed up space in the starting lineup and Jach took his chance, making 78 appearances for the club overall before his Premier League switch.
He won his first international caps for Poland in November's friendlies against Uruguay and Mexico.
