Wenger turned down 'the whole world' to stay at Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger barked back at reporters who questioned his commitment to the club, saying he rejected several opportunities over the past two decades to remain in north London.

A comprehensive 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the League Cup final renewed supporters' frustrations with Wenger, who has spent the past 21 years at Arsenal.

Many see the Frenchman as a symbol of the club's decay, with the Gunners now staring at a season without either silverware or Champions League qualification.

But the 68-year-old - who has another year remaining on his contract - was perturbed at the mere suggestion he wouldn't honour his agreement.

"I have been here for 21 years and I always respected my contract, so I am quite amazed that you ask me the question," Wenger said, according to the Guardian's David Hytner.

The manager added: "I turned the whole world down to respect my contracts. So I am still amazed that I still have to answer these types of questions."

Wenger reportedly rejected past advances from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain during his long tenure.
