Eden Hazard's first-half penalty proved to be the difference that helped Chelsea lift its eighth FA Cup after beating Manchester United 1-0 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

United defender Phil Jones brought the Belgian star down in the box with a clumsy challenge before Hazard calmly scored the deciding goal 22 minutes into the contest. Alexis Sanchez appeared to score the equaliser in the second half, but the goal was called back after the linesman ruled him offside.

United dominated possession and created more opportunities in the match, but Jose Mourinho's men lacked quality in the final third against a composed Chelsea backline comprised of Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill, and Antonio Rudiger.

N'Golo Kante's presence in the midfield was influential in limiting United's surges into the Chelsea end, while Tiemoue Bakayoko produced a solid performance to end what was ultimately a frustrating debut season in England.

Chelsea's victory ended a six-year drought without winning the FA Cup, and helps patch the wound of missing out on qualifying for next season's Champions League. Meanwhile, United's loss means Mourinho has failed to win a trophy during his second season at a club for the first time in his managerial career.
