Wolves sell Afobe to Stoke, sign Benfica striker Jimenez on loan

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed they have sold striker Benik Afobe to newly relegated Stoke City.

Afobe only returned to Molineux last January on loan and Wolves triggered the option in his contract to make the move permanent at the start of June.

However, they have now agreed to sell the 25-year-old to the Potters for an undisclosed fee less than two weeks following what was described as a "significant offer."

Afobe will initially join Stoke on a six-month loan deal before an obligatory purchase in January.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side also announced on Tuesday it has signed Benfica striker Raul Jimenez on a season-long loan from the Portuguese club.

There is no confirmation as to how much the promoted club paid for the temporary move, but the Express & Star's Tim Spiers reports there is an option to buy him permanently next summer for around £30 million.

The 27-year-old brings further quality to the Molineux side's attack, having registered 31 goals and 15 assists across 120 appearances in Portugal.

Wolves fans will be able to see their new loan star in action at the World Cup after he was selected as part of Mexico's final squad. Jimenez has 14 goals from 62 senior caps for his country to date.

Jimenez, a former player of Club America and Atletico Madrid who has featured 22 times in the Champions League during his career, will bring undoubted pedigree to Wolves' attack as they look to equip themselves to survive Premier League life.
