West Ham completes Fabianski signing from relegated Swansea

Lukasz Fabianski has been spared of second-tier football by signing for Manuel Pellegrini's West Ham United on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old joined from Swansea City for a reported £7-million fee and inked a three-year contract. He was named the Swans' Player of the Season for the 2017-18 campaign, but wasn't able to swat away enough shots to prevent Swansea's descent into the Championship.

Fabianski will become the first Polish player to represent West Ham. He is the third arrival at the London Stadium this summer, following the signings of Ryan Fredericks and Issa Diop.

"Lukasz is an experienced and established Premier League goalkeeper, with great quality that he has shown at both domestic and international level," said new director of football Mario Husillos.

“He fits perfectly the mould of the modern goalkeeper, with excellent agility, presence and distribution, and will bring strong competition to the position."

The goalkeeper began his career in his native Poland with Lech Poznan and Legia Warsaw before signing for Arsenal in 2007. He stayed with the north London outfit for seven seasons, but never made more than 14 appearances in one Premier League campaign before joining Swansea in 2014. Over the past three Premier League terms, Fabianski has faced more shots on goal and made more saves than any other goalkeeper.

Fabianski fills the vacancy left by Joe Hart, who is back with Manchester City after his loan spell, and will provide competition for Adrian. The Spanish shot-stopper won his place back between the sticks under David Moyes last season, starting the final four league matches of the season.

Fabianski is currently with Poland at the World Cup, but is firmly behind Juventus' Wojciech Szczesny in the pecking order.
