By the numbers: England celebrates record-breaking win vs. Panama
England has rarely been this enjoyable.
Both fans and media lapped up Sunday's massive 6-1 victory over Panama, knowing they had just witnessed a historic result. The Three Lions had never before scored five goals in a single World Cup match - let alone in one half.
Here are the most telling stats from one of the most lopsided contests in recent tournament history:
2: As a result of his brace against Panama, centre-back John Stones can boast more World Cup goals than Wayne Rooney. Stones has also outscored the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez in Russia.
3: Harry Kane's hat-trick may not have been the purest, but it's noteworthy nonetheless. The prolific striker became one of just three players to record a treble for England at a World Cup, along with Gary Lineker and Geoff Hurst.
4: England is the fourth team in World Cup history to carry a five-goal lead into the break.
