Twitter erupts after dubious penalty gives Manchester United miracle win
Marcus Rashford's 94th-minute penalty sent Manchester United through to the final eight of the Champions League on Wednesday, and unsurprisingly left Paris Saint-Germain fans and neutrals questioning the influence of VAR.
Despite having his back turned to the action and his right arm close to his side, Presnel Kimpembe was adjudged to have handled in the area when Diogo Dalot smashed the ball at him from close range. To describe the decision as controversial would be an understatement.
Here's how the world of football reacted to referee Damir Skomina's call after consulting the pitchside screen:
Preposterous decision - VAR to get it completely wrong. Madness

He’s turned away from the ball, which has been smashed at him from point-blank range. That’s a crazy decision.

Football isn't played in slow motion. So stop showing handballs in slow motion.

This must be the deal UEFA made with itself for all PSG’s flaunting of Financial Fair Play: they will never win the Champions League

Your daily reminder that VAR is shit.

If you are jumping with your back turned and your arm out, you are making yourself bigger. That was a penalty. Still a massive call. #MUFC #PSG
