Report: Emery facing sack, Arsenal brass consider his position untenable

Unai Emery's days at Arsenal appear to be numbered.

The Spaniard's position has become "untenable" in the wake of Thursday's harrowing Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt, sources told Julien Laurens of ESPN.

The club's senior officials could decide to relieve the much-maligned manager of his duties in the coming days, adds Laurens. The Gunners travel to lowly Norwich City on Sunday.

The 2-1 loss to Eintracht, played in front of a half-empty Emirates Stadium, extended Arsenal's winless run to seven matches in all competitions. It's the club's worst streak in 27 years. Those who were in attendance on Thursday booed the team and its beleaguered coach off the pitch at the full-time whistle, making their desire for a change known once more.

The Arsenal brass have supported Emery through the club's horrid start to the campaign, but it looks as though the latest setback was the final straw.

Recent reports suggest the former Paris Saint-Germain boss has lost the faith of his players as a result of baffling personnel and tactical decisions, along with the team's lack of identity on the pitch.

If Emery is indeed fired, assistant Freddie Ljungberg, a fan favorite from his playing days in north London, could replace him on an interim basis.
