Aguero: Players 'scared' about potential Premier League return

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero says the Premier League's plan to resume the season amid the COVID-19 pandemic has left many players fearful for the safety of their families.

"The majority of players are scared because they have family, they have children, they have babies," the Argentine told El Chiringuito TV, according to Reuters.

"When we go back, I imagine that we will be very tense, we will be very careful, and the moment someone feels ill, you will think: 'What's gone on there?' It does scare me," he added.

Top-flight clubs will have a virtual meeting Friday to discuss the league's resumption plan, dubbed "Project Restart." The Premier League, which has been on hiatus since March 13, remains determined to complete the current season. June 8 is the targeted return date.

There are over 172,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom, resulting in 26,842 deaths.

"There are people who have it, but they don't have symptoms, and they can infect you. You can be infected and you don’t know anything about it," Aguero said.

If a return to full training is approved before social distancing rules in the country are relaxed, BBC Sport reports that a number of protocols will be enforced, including screening players for symptoms of the coronavirus each day.
