Report: Inter Miami, D.C. United eyeing ex-Liverpool forward Sturridge

Inter Miami and D.C. United are considering a move for Daniel Sturridge, according to Goal's Nizaar Kinsella.

The 30-year-old forward agreed to mutually terminate his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor in March. He's currently serving a worldwide ban from all football activities after he was found guilty of breaching betting rules, but the suspension will be lifted on June 17.

Sturridge has never shied away from his ambition to play in North America and recently revealed he's in the United States working toward his return to action.

"I think, firstly, it is about going back to doing what I love, which is playing football. That's the most important thing," Sturridge said during last week's podcast with Oxford Union, as reported by Kinsella. "I love the game; I miss the game. I can't wait to get out there and help my team win games, score goals, and get assists.

"That's my main focus. I am training in America at the moment. I am getting my body right and getting in good shape. I will be ready and raring to go when my ban is up."

Inter Miami and D.C. United both have one Designated Player slot open. Inter Miami are weighing an approach for Sturridge but are also considering a move for Pedro, whose Chelsea contract expires at the end of the season. D.C. United, meanwhile, believe Sturridge could be a ready-made replacement for Wayne Rooney, who joined Derby County at the end of the 2019 MLS campaign.

Sturridge hasn't hit double figures in a league season since his 21-goal haul for Liverpool in the 2013-14 term. He's represented England 26 times, scoring eight goals.
