Aguero, Laporte out of Manchester City's season opener at Wolves
Manchester City will not have Sergio Aguero and Aymeric Laporte for Monday's trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves are already two matches into their campaign after last weekend's 2-0 Premier League win at Sheffield United and Thursday's surprise 1-0 defeat to Stoke City in the League Cup. However, City's upcoming visit marks the season opener for Pep Guardiola's side.
And still, despite being granted more time to recuperate after the 2019-20 campaign's Champions League endeavors, the Wolves match has come too soon for two key City players.
"He (Aguero) still did not make one training session with us," Guardiola told Friday's news conference, as quoted by Reuters.
"Riyad (Mahrez) came back three or four days ago and is training. Today is the first day Aymeric is back. Mahrez is available for Wolves, Laporte not yet."
Laporte, 26, missed nearly five months last term with knee ligament damage and contracted COVID-19 earlier this month, which hindered his preseason preparations. Mahrez also returned a positive test.
Aguero has not featured for City since suffering a serious knee injury in June. He quickly underwent surgery on his ailment in Barcelona but has not returned to training with his teammates at the club's Beswick base.
