Report: Mourinho wants Lingard reunion at Tottenham
Jose Mourinho wants to reunite with Jesse Lingard at Tottenham Hotspur, according to ESPN's Rob Dawson.
The versatile attacker, who was a prominent member of Mourinho's Manchester United team, fell out of favor at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season. Lingard's reduced role has led him to consider moving elsewhere for more first-team football, with Zenit St. Petersburg among the clubs apparently interested in him.
However, after Mourinho prompted Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to look into signing Lingard, discussions between intermediaries began over the 27-year-old's potential shift to north London.
Lingard was among the fittest players to report to United's preseason workouts after a rigorous individual regime while on holiday in Greece, Dawson understands. Solskjaer has promised him plenty of minutes during a stacked 2020-21 schedule, but Lingard isn't convinced. United left the 27-year-old out of their matchday squad for Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace.
Tottenham overcame an unconvincing first-half performance to trounce Southampton 5-2 on Sunday. Saturday's blockbuster summer signings, Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale, didn't travel for the match at St Mary's.
