Liverpool's slump continues with 6th straight home defeat to lowly Fulham
What is happening?
Liverpool suffered a sixth consecutive home defeat Sunday as relegation-threatened Fulham engineered a 1-0 win at Anfield.
The result extends the Reds' worst-ever run of losses on home turf and could leave the reigning Premier League champions in eighth place when the weekend's fixtures are over. They topped the table on Christmas Day.
The rejuvenated Cottagers, meanwhile, have now racked up 26 points and are only in the relegation zone courtesy of an inferior goal difference to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Mario Lemina wrestled Mohamed Salah off the ball and lashed a finish past Alisson for Fulham's goal near the end of the first half. Defender Joachim Andersen made some crucial interventions in the closing moments to preserve the visitors' one-goal lead.
Liverpool will try to arrest their disastrous spell at Anfield against Aston Villa on April 10. Wednesday's Champions League "home" leg against RB Leipzig will be held in Budapest due to coronavirus restrictions.
Liverpool's last eight fixtures at Anfield:
Date | Opponent | Result |
---|---|---|
Dec. 27 | West Brom | 1-1 draw |
Jan. 17 | Manchester United | 0-0 draw |
Jan. 21 | Burnley | 1-0 loss |
Feb. 3 | Brighton | 1-0 loss |
Feb. 7 | Manchester City | 4-1 loss |
Feb. 20 | Everton | 2-0 loss |
March 4 | Chelsea | 1-0 loss |
March 7 | Fulham | 1-0 loss |
The match that started Liverpool's run of home losses - a 1-0 setback to Burnley in January - ended the Reds' 68-game unbeaten streak on Merseyside.
"They have it all but at the moment they can't show it," Klopp told Sky Sports post-match. "It will be a masterpiece to find out how we change that overnight. The only good thing is that we play a different competition in three days and hopefully we can show there a different face."
