Barcelona have snubbed Tottenham Hotspur's opening bid for right-back Emerson Royal despite the financial issues plaguing the club, according to ESPN's Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens.

Spurs' bid was reportedly for €20 million plus Serge Aurier, who was left out of the north London side's 1-0 win over Watford on Sunday.

Barcelona will only consider a "huge" offer for Emerson, sources told Marsden and Llorens. Sergino Dest started the team's first two La Liga matches of the season before Barca selected Emerson to start Sunday's meeting with Getafe.

Head coach Ronald Koeman wants the two players to compete for the right-back slot this term.

Emerson returned to Barcelona this summer after they exercised a €9-million option to bring him back from Real Betis. The Andalusian outfit will be due a percentage of any future transfer fee the Blaugrana receive for Emerson.

Barcelona have debts of €1.35 billion and couldn't keep Lionel Messi this summer because of their huge wage bill.
