Championship roundup: Mitrovic strikes for Fulham as Bournemouth stumble
London, April 6, 2022 (AFP) - Aleksandar Mitrovic scored his 38th league goal of the season as Fulham won 1-0 at Middlesbrough on Wednesday to move 11 points clear at the top of English football's Championship.
Only the top two clubs at the end of the regular season are guaranteed promotion to the lucrative Premier League.
Mitrovic headed home Harry Wilson's free-kick 16 minutes from time as Fulham made the most of nearest promotion rivals Bournemouth losing at West Brom.
Defeat dealt Boro's play-off hopes a blow as they dropped out of the top six.
Second-placed Bournemouth suffered their first defeat in six league games, losing 2-0 at West Bromwich Albion thanks to goals from Alex Mowatt and Andy Carroll in the space of four minutes.
Nottingham Forest climbed back into the play-off places as they beat Coventry 2-0 at the City Ground.
Brennan Johnson's 14th league goal of the season gave Forest a half-time lead and James Garner added a second just after the hour mark.
Victory meant Forest moved up to fifth, with two games in hand on the three other sides in the play-off places.
