On-loan Arsenal defender Mari stabbed in Milan, 1 dead after attack
A 46-year-old Italian man wielding a knife killed one person and injured at least four others, including Arsenal's Pablo Mari, at a supermarket in a suburb of Milan, Italian news agency ANSA reported Thursday.
Arsenal said Mari - who's currently on loan at AC Monza - was "not seriously hurt" in the attack.
The five victims range in age from 28 to 81, according to ANSA, including a 30-year-old supermarket employee who died before reaching the hospital.
A sixth person was hurt but did not require hospital treatment, according to Sky Sports.
Police arrested the man and immediately ruled out terrorism as a motive.
Monza chief executive Adriano Galliani confirmed in an interview with Italian TV that Mari had suffered a "fairly deep wound on his back" that "fortunately did not touch any vital organs."
"His life is not in danger," Galliani added. "He should recover quickly."
Galliani said the 29-year-old center-back was with his son and wife when the man stabbed him.
The Spanish player joined Monza on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal in August.
