The dust has barely settled on the last campaign, but attention has already shifted to the 2023-24 season with the release of the Premier League fixture list on Thursday.

Manchester City will begin their title defense against Burnley on Aug. 11 with a familiar face standing opposite Pep Guardiola on the touchline, as former club captain Vincent Kompany's newly promoted team kicks off the season hosting last term's treble winners at Turf Moor.

Manchester City - winners of the FA Cup and Champions League as well last season - are aiming to win the Premier League for sixth time in seven years.

Meanwhile, runners-up Arsenal begin their campaign against Nottingham Forest, as the Gunners try to end their nearly 20-year wait for a league title.

The marquee fixture for the opening weekend takes place on Sunday when Chelsea host Liverpool in a battle of two teams that failed to live up to expectations last season.

The following week, Newcastle face a huge test when they visit Manchester City hoping to prove they can compete with the Premier League's elite.

Further down the road, the first north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur takes place on Sept. 23. The opening Manchester derby will be played at Old Trafford on Oct. 28, a week before the season's first Merseyside derby.

Other intriguing clashes in the first half of the season include a battle between the two top teams in England last season, Arsenal and Manchester City, on Oct. 7, as well as the usually feisty affair between Liverpool and Manchester United on Dec. 16.

The season is set to end May 19 when all 20 clubs are in action at the same time.
