Amrabat calls Man United 'club of my dreams' after sealing loan move
Manchester United got their midfielder.
After being linked with Sofyan Amrabat for much of the summer, the Red Devils finally reached an agreement with Fiorentina on deadline day, signing the 27-year-old on a season-long loan.
United will pay Fiorentina a €10-million loan fee, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. They'll also have the option to make the deal permanent next summer for €20 million plus €5 million in potential add-ons.
United's Financial Fair Play situation prevented them from striking a more traditionally structured transfer, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein. Amrabat, left out of Fiorentina's squad for the opening two Serie A matches amid uncertainty over his future, was always keen on the switch.
"It is a huge honour to become a Manchester United player," Amrabat said in a statement. "I've had to be patient for this moment but I'm someone who always listens to my heart and now I am representing the club of my dreams.
"I am a passionate player. I want to bring that energy to the squad, and I will put everything into every action I take for the team."
The Moroccan, one of the standout performers at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, will reunite with Erik ten Hag after playing for the Dutch manager in the Netherlands at FC Utrecht earlier in his career.
"I know exactly how Erik ten Hag likes to work and what he needs from his players," Amrabat added. "His coaching and guidance developed me so much as a player earlier in my career. I know that he will help to bring out the best of my abilities so that I can help the group to be successful this season."
He should help a United team that's looked light in central midfield early in the new season, with his tireless effort and physical presence offering a nice balance to the more attack-minded players at Old Trafford.
