Frank Lampard is a surprise name on a list of candidates to be the next head coach of Canada's men's team, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law.
Canada Soccer wants to hold talks with the former Chelsea and England midfielder, Law reports. However, it remains to be seen if Lampard is interested in working with the cash-strapped federation.
If he accepted the job, Lampard would lead the men's team to the 2026 World Cup, which Canada is co-hosting.
The federation promoted Mauro Biello from assistant coach to interim boss following John Herdman's departure in October 2023. Biello oversaw Canada's qualification for Copa America, but his overall return of two wins and two defeats has been unconvincing.
Lampard's relatively brief managerial career has included guiding Derby County to the Championship playoff final in his first season, qualifying for the Champions League and reaching an FA Cup final with Chelsea, and avoiding relegation from the Premier League with Everton. But Lampard's reputation is in need of repair after failing to maintain his initial successes with Chelsea and Everton, and delivering just one win in 11 matches in another stint at Chelsea as caretaker manager last season.
The 45-year-old watched England training during the team's preparations for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium in March.
Lampard is widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of the Premier League era through his exploits with Chelsea. The Englishman, who started his career with West Ham United, is Chelsea's all-time leading scorer and won the Champions League, Europa League, three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and two League Cups with the Blues. Lampard had a brief spell with Manchester City before ending his playing days with New York City FC in Major League Soccer.
