Tour cancels 4 more events, PGA Championship postponed
The PGA Tour canceled four more events and the PGA Championship was postponed, the respective organizations announced Tuesday.
The RBC Heritage, Zurich Classic, Wells Fargo Championship, and AT&T Byron Nelson will not be played in 2020 due to the coronavirus outbreak, the PGA Tour announced.
The season's second major, scheduled to be played at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco beginning May 14, has been put on hold by the PGA of America with the hopes of being rescheduled in the summer, according to Golf Channel's Ryan Lavner.
“We are and have been working in concert with commissioner Jay Monahan and our partners and friends at the PGA Tour to find an alternative date that works for all," PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh said. "We are very hopeful for a great outcome.”
San Fransisco has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. The city is going under lockdown starting Tuesday night for three weeks to deal with the outbreak.
The last time a PGA Championship was outright canceled was in 1943 due to World War II.
Previously, the PGA Tour had only canceled 2020 events up until the Masters. There will be no golf played on Tour until at least May 21.
