Augusta National donates $2M for local COVID-19 relief

Augusta National Golf Club is donating $2 million to help local organizations fight the spread of COVID-19, according to Wynston Wilcox of the Augusta Chronicle.

Half the funds will be donated to Augusta University to expand testing for the coronavirus in and around the Georgia city. The other half will go to a joint program launched by the Community Fund and United Way to assist the community's most vulnerable populations affected by the outbreak.

"It is our hope these gifts will help address the many challenges brought about by the coronavirus throughout the city of Augusta and the greater region," Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley said. "We believe Augusta National has an important responsibility to support and protect the community who has so generously and consistently supported us for many years."

Augusta National closed its doors two weeks ago after postponing the 2020 Masters Tournament until "some later date." The club announced last week it has rescheduled this year's Drive, Chip, and Putt national finals - an annual event for junior golfers held prior to the start of the Masters - to 2021.
