Klopp: Liverpool 'will try everything' to have Origi fit by end of season

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool will strive to get Divock Origi back on a football pitch before the end the season, despite the striker suffering ankle ligament damage against Everton.

It's estimated that Origi would be out of the Reds' contention for four-to-six weeks following Ramiro Funes Mori's horror tackle Wednesday, but his club manager is optimistic the 21-year-old has a chance to feature again this term.

"It is serious but we will try everything," the Liverpool manager said. "The season is not over without taking any risk for the player. I am long enough in this to know we are all different, all individuals, so we don't have to make any general thing. We only have to work with him and see what will happen. It is the same with Emre Can."

Can emerged as a vital cog in the Klopp era at Anfield, but has not featured since Liverpool's incredible comeback win against Borussia Dortmund on April 14 as he too is suffering with ankle ligament issues.

"A long time ago I had an ACL (injury) and I played after four months. No one could believe it worked but I never had a problem. Why should we say now the season is over when we still believe there can be a few games?"

There is a narrative building ahead of Liverpool's visit from Newcastle United on Saturday as it marks the return of Rafa Benitez to Anfield. The Spaniard, who took the helm on Tyneside in March, oversaw Liverpool between 2004 and 2010, winning the FA Cup, Champions League, and UEFA Super Cup.

Newcastle is fighting for its Premier League status as it sits two points adrift of safety with four matches left. Liverpool, meanwhile, sits in seventh and is pursuing qualification for the Europa League.
