Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke is regarded as one of the finest prospects in English football, and the striker appears to have recognised his lofty promise given his exorbitant wage demands.

The Telegraph's Matt Law understands the 18-year-old, currently impressing in the Dutch Eredivisie on a season-long loan at Vitesse Arnhem, has demanded £50,000-a-week from his parent club, with assurances of first-team football.

Solanke's stepfather is said to be overseeing the negotiations on the teenager's behalf, and the contract demands could prove a stretch too far. The teenager has just one senior Chelsea appearance to his name, when he appeared as a substitute against Slovenian minnow NK Maribor in the Champions League.

Something that works in Solanke's favour is Stamford Bridge's hunger for homegrown talent. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has proven a hit since given a sustained chance in the first team, and supporters are keen on more players to progress from a youth system which hadn't seen any alumni stake a claim in the first team since 35-year-old John Terry.

It is believed that Solanke is currently earning £7,000-a-week on a deal which is set to expire at the end of the 2016-17 season, but his requested salary would see him take home a similar pay packet to Tottenham Hotspur and England star Harry Kane.

There are two matches left in the Eredivisie season, and Vitesse occupies mid-table with a visit from FC Utrecht and a trip to FC Twente to go.
