De Laet celebrates Premier League medal and promotion on same day

Leicester City's story on its own is incredible, but consider Ritchie De Laet's day for a moment.

The Belgian full-back celebrated Middlesbrough's promotion to the Premier League just hours before collecting his Premier League winners' medal at Leicester City's King Power Stadium on a whirlwind Saturday. By virtue of playing for both teams this season, De Laet enjoyed an unprecedented privilege in English football.

The 27-year-old was an unused substitute during Middlesbrough's 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion at Riverside - a result that confirmed Boro's return to the top flight for the first time in seven years. He then set off for Leicester's match against Everton in the East Midlands, and was in attendance before the final whistle was blown.

"It's crazy, a great day for me. It's crazy, I'm still a Leicester player so I'll be on my way to catch end of the Leicester game to get awarded my medal over there," De Laet told the BBC before the ceremony.

He became eligible for a Premier League medal after making 12 appearances for the Foxes in the first half of the season. De Laet joined Middlsebrough on loan in January, and featured in another 10 league matches with the Smoggies.

Had Middlesbrough won the Championship, he would've had the right to claim a chunk of that title as well.
