Report: Everton to offer Lukaku new deal
Everton is set to renew its efforts to retain the services of striker Romelu Lukaku.
Ronald Koeman, who was unveiled as the new Toffees manager Tuesday, wants to spend a portion of his hefty transfer kitty on trying to make sure Lukaku stays put, reports ESPN FC's Peter O'Rourke.
Lukaku's current contract expires at the end of the 2018-19 season, and he is part of a Everton contingent that will reportedly be offered fresh terms with the club's newfound wealth.
The wantaway Belgian striker's goal-scoring exploits have alerted a host of clubs across Europe, like Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, but a return to Chelsea has appeared the most likely destination.
Report: Lukaku eyes move away from Everton to 'win titles'
Lukaku joined Chelsea in 2011, but after a lack of first-team action was loaned out to West Bromwich Albion and Everton until he made his transfer to Merseyside permanent for £28 million in 2014. His overall record with the Toffees stands at 43 goals in 97 Premier League starts.
Lukaku has said he's interested in moving to a club with higher aspirations than Everton, which hasn't broken the Premier League's top four in 11 years. The club could make assurances to the attacker following investment from new owner Farhad Moshiri, however. The Iranian has detailed ambitious plans since acquiring 49.9 percent of the club.
If Everton can persuade Lukaku to remain at Goodison Park, he is likely to line up in its Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Aug. 13.
