Janssen frustrated with AZ Alkmaar after rejected Spurs bid

Vincent Janssen is none too pleased with his club side AZ Alkmaar after reports emerged that the Dutch outfit turned down a £15-million bid from Tottenham for his services.

The breakout star of the 2015-16 Eredivisie season scored 28 goals in 40 appearances for Alkmaar and saw himself linked to the likes of Wolfsburg and Arsenal after earning international call-ups to Danny Blind's Netherlands team.

But Janssen's heart seems to be set on White Hart Lane and he's hoping Alkmaar makes haste in completing his sale.

"I have expressed my choice at the club," Janssen said, as quoted by Sky Sports. "Tottenham Hotspur have made a high bid in my eyes. There has been an offer around €18 million (£14.9m, $19.9m), but AZ will not even come to the table.

"I would like somewhere else as soon as possible to start my preparation. This is frustrating ... I indicated that I would take the next step and want to get away from the club. They know (this) and are aware of (the situation)."

The summer transfer window opens Friday and a fee for his signature has yet to be agreed upon by the two clubs.

Last week, AZ Alkmaar technical director Max Huiberts confirmed a Spurs bid had been rejected, explaining that the "difference between the offer and the asking price is too big."

The 22-year-old striker had met with club officials in London two weeks earlier.

"It's a shame, I would have wished that it would go a little faster," Janssen said. "Sure it's fine to train again. AZ is a fantastic club, but I want to make that next step for my development.

"Ultimately I hope to shake people's hands here and walk out of the door on good terms."
