Report: Crystal Palace set to rescue Townsend out of relegated Newcastle
Crystal Palace is set to throw Andros Townsend a lifeline by way of a four-year contract at Selhurst Park, rescuing the English winger out of newly-relegated Newcastle United, according to a report by The Guardian's Dominic Fifield.
Townsend will reportedly sign for Alan Pardew's side in the next 48 hours after the London-based club reportedly triggers the £13-million release clause in his Newcastle contract, escaping Championship obscurity in the process.
After joining the Magpies midway through the 2015-16 Premier League season, Townsend managed to find his form once again, scoring four goals in 13 appearances, but it wasn't enough for Newcastle to survive the drop.
His performances garnered some interest from England manager Roy Hodgson, who gave him a preliminary call-up for Euro 2016, but Townsend was ultimately dropped from the final 23-man team.
