Swansea strengthens goalkeeping options with Birighitti
Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin bolstered his options between the sticks Monday with the acquisition of Australian goalkeeper Mark Birighitti on a free transfer.
The 25-year-old was named in the A-League's 2015-16 team of the season for his exploits for the Newcastle Jets. Now he'll compete with Lukasz Fabianski, Kristoffer Nordfeldt, and Gerhard Tremmel for a place in the starting XI after signing a two-year contract at the Liberty Stadium.
"I have to make sure when the opportunity comes that I take the opportunity with both hands and don’t look back," said the one-time Australia international.
The shot-stopper becomes Guidolin's fourth signing of the transfer window after Leroy Fer, Mike van der Hoorn, and Tyler Reid.
The Swans kick off their 2016-17 Premier League campaign at Burnley on Aug. 13.
