FC Schalke 04's sporting director has confirmed Leroy Sane is on his way out of the Veltins-Arena, with Manchester City apparently ready to meet the 20-year-old's asking price of £42 million.
Pep Guardiola's outfit was only initially willing to offer £35 million, reports The Guardian's Ed Aarons, but is finally ready to stump up the cash for a player who's been on City's radar since 2013.
"Leroy has made it clear he would like to leave this summer," sporting director Christian Heidel told Sky Sports. "We will consent to a transfer if Schalke's conditions are met."
Sane's father - former Senegalese international Souleyman Sane - suggested his son could still move to Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, but the manager of the former, Carlo Ancelotti, took his side out of the running Tuesday.
Leroy predominantly cropped up on the right flank last term as he scored eight goals and laid on six assists in 23 starts. His dazzling feet and considerable pace will provide Jesus Navas with significant competition. Incredibly, the nervy Spaniard collected more minutes than any other City player in 2015-16.
Guardiola has already strengthened his inherited squad with the signings of Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito, and Oleksandr Zinchenko, and the transfer of the superbly named goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli is nearing completion.
