Jon Flanagan decided not to travel with the rest of his Liverpool teammates on their U.S. tour Thursday, instead taking the time to evaluate a potential move to Burnley on a season-long loan, according to the Liverpool Echo's Andy Kelly.
The 23-year-old was left off Liverpool's matchday squad for Wednesday's friendly against Huddersfield Town, with manager Jurgen Klopp mindful of the player's current predicament.
Nathaniel Clyne is currently Klopp's first-choice right-back, and it's believed Klopp would prefer to send Flanagan elsewhere to gain experience.
He made just five Premier League appearances last season after spending the majority of the campaign recovering from a horrific knee injury.
Signing a new three-year contract with the Reds in March, the Merseyside native is still a part of the club's long-term plans.
A decision over his immediate future is not expected to be swift. Klopp has allowed Flanagan to take the time he needs.
