Newcastle signs Diame from Hull City

Newcastle United announced the signing of midfielder Mohamed Diame from Hull City to a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee Wednesday.

The fee's reportedly the £4.5-million needed to activate his release clause, according to Sky Sports' Rory O'Callaghan.

The 29-year-old Senegal international joined Hull City in 2014 after enjoying stints at West Ham and Wigan Athletic. Diame is the second signing of the day for the Magpies with the club announcing the acquisition of Ciaran Clark from Aston Villa.

"It is a great feeling to be a Newcastle player," Diame said in a statement. "Everybody close to me knows how desperate I am to play in the Premier League again, but when Newcastle comes in for you it makes you think.

"I am looking to the future. Newcastle is a big name, a massive club and will be back in the Premier League, for sure."

Diame is the eighth player Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has added to the roster since the team was relegated at the end of the 2015-16 Premier League campaign.

"Mohamed is a strong, attack-minded player with a lot of fight and determination to his game," Benitez said in a statement. "He is also someone who will provide the team with goals and assists from midfield.

"He has good experience of the Championship and the fight needed to win promotion, which will be important for us."
