Chelsea has yet to table an official offer for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, even though the west London side has considered a potential £70-million bid to buy back its former player, according to The Telegraph's Sam Wallace.

The Blues are apparently prepared to pay more than double what it received to send the Belgium international to Goodison Park in 2014, with Loic Remy included in the deal as a potential makeweight.

Everton has informed Chelsea that a bid for Lukaku would be "most unwelcome," according to Wallace, but the Toffees are likely to wage a tough battle to retain Lukaku's services for the remainder of the month.

Manager Ronald Koeman would, however, sanction the sale of the player if a suitable replacement arrives before the end of the transfer window on Aug. 31.

Lukaku suffered an injury during Saturday's friendly against Espanyol that required three stitches, but Koeman confirmed to reporters that it's "not serious."

A similar situation is unfolding at the centre-back position, with John Stones nearing a £40-million move to Manchester City.

Wallace believes Koeman wants to secure the signing of Ashley Williams before letting Stones leave less than two weeks before the start of the Premier League campaign.

Swansea City reportedly turned down a £10-million proposal for long-time defender Williams, although Everton's expected to return to the negotiating table with an improved offer.
