Burnley's Andre Gray apologises for homophobic tweets

Andre Gray has asked for forgiveness after tweets from the Burnley striker in 2012 were found to include homophobic views and derogatory comments about women.

One tweet, sent when Gray was representing non-league Hinckley United, apparently included content which condoned violence against gay people.

According to BBC Sport, it read: "Is it me or are there gays everywhere? #Burn #Die #Makesmesick."

Another deleted tweet reported by The Telegraph's Sean Gibson reads: "Would love to see women do preseason yano, see if they moan about their period then."

The 25-year-old has attributed his chequered past to his spouting of egregious views on social media. The homophobic sentiments were tweeted days after Gray's face was scarred during a knife attack as he was tied up with the gang culture of Wolverhampton.

Gray made his first strides in professional football at Shrewsbury Town, but was released from the Shropshire outfit in 2010. He then rebuilt his career through stints at Hinckley, Luton Town, and Brentford before Burnley parted with a club-record £9 million for his services last summer.

The forward scored his first Premier League goal on Saturday in the newly promoted Clarets' impressive 2-0 defeat of Liverpool.
