Kompany, Gundogan, Sane expected to be available for Manchester derby
Manchester City looks set to receive a massive boost ahead of the Manchester derby next month.
Manager Pep Guardiola believes the trio of Vincent Kompany, Ilkay Gundogan, and Leroy Sane will overcome their respective injuries in time for City's crucial encounter with Manchester United on Sept. 10.
All three players returned to training Tuesday but have yet to prove they are fit to play in either Wednesday's Champions League qualifier against Steaua Bucharest or Sunday's fixture against West Ham.
Guardiola added that the international break should provide an adequate amount of time to recover before taking part in training sessions ahead of the local derby.
"In terms of long-term injuries, Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan have little problems,” Guardiola told the team's website. “We have 10 days to work with them and improve their physical conditions.
“Hopefully, when we come back from the international break, they will be a full part of our training sessions."
Sane, who's dealt with a hamstring injury since joining City from FC Schalke 04 earlier this summer, could be in line to make an early return after Guardiola included the German in his Champions League team.
Meanwhile, Kompany is working his way back from a thigh injury that required surgery, and Gundogan is close to returning from a major knee injury.
