An unfortunate sequence of bounces means Shay Given is in the record books for a distinction that no player wants.
On Saturday, after Phil Bardsley was judged to have tripped Everton's Ashley Williams, Given was tasked with saving a penalty kick from Leighton Baines. Although the Irish 'keeper got his left hand to the shot, the ball ricocheted off the post before hitting the back of his head and rebounding into the net, resulting in a historic own goal.

Making matters worse for Given, the own goal was the difference in the fixture, as Everton exited Goodison Park with a 1-0 victory over Stoke City.
