Chris Coleman wants lifetime bans for those guilty of corruption

Wales manager Chris Coleman has encouraged a strong step-down on corruption in football, saying any guilty party should be forced to say "good night" to their careers in the game.

The Telegraph has been releasing findings of a 10-month investigation called "Football for Sale" which has unveiled damning evidence of rule-breaking and kickback negotiating by England manager Sam Allardyce and Barnsley assistant Tommy Wright, both of whom have lost their jobs.

Queens Park Rangers boss Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink has also been accused of similar misdemeanours, with further corrupt behaviour expected to be reported by the newspaper in coming days.

"If anyone is caught then they should be removed from the game permanently and that's it, good night," Coleman said, according to Dafydd Pritchard of the BBC.

He added: "It's sad, but I have zero respect for anyone caught."

Coleman is dismayed by the acts of people privileged enough to be working in football having their heads turned by avarice - particularly when Britain has been in the throes of an economic downturn for a decade.

"If you earn £50,000 a year, that's a good salary to the man in the street. If you're earning £50,000 a week then why are you after more? It's just greed," the former Swansea City, Crystal Palace, and Fulham defender continued.

"Unfortunately we are all tarnished with the same brush. We are all involved in an industry where there is corruption from the very top.

"But what are we going to do about it if someone is caught? Will it just be a rap of the knuckles or will they be banished?

For Coleman, it can only be the latter solution.

"If there is evidence against someone and they are found guilty then get rid of them from the game and they should never be allowed back."

The 46-year-old has lifted Wales into 10th in the FIFA World Rankings - above Spain, Italy, and England - and looks to build on the country's opening 4-0 World Cup qualification win over Moldova in October tilts against Austria and Georgia.
