Arsenal's Perez expected 'more of a starring role'
Lucas Perez's time at Arsenal has gotten off to a slower start than he expected upon his arrival in north London.
Perez has primarily been planted on the bench since his £17-million move from Deportivo, appearing in just four matches in all competitions.
The 28-year-old Spanish forward is coming off an impressive performance in the Champions League after setting up two goals during Arsenal's 6-0 win over Ludogorets, but admits he expected to feature in a more prominent role ahead of his transfer to England.
"When I first arrived here I expected to have more of a starring role," Perez told Ondacero radio, as translated by ESPN FC's Adriana Garcia.
Unfortunately for Perez, those ahead of him on the depth chart have had impressive starts to the season, as Alexis Sanchez toes the line up front with four goals to his name while Theo Walcott is off to a blazing start after banging in five league goals.
He added: "The teammates that are playing in my position are doing a great job. We have won seven games in a row and, at the end of the day, the coach wants what is best for the team.
"I had hoped to have more playing time, but what I have to do now is make the most of the opportunities I get."
Perez will look to make his second Premier League start Saturday when Arsenal hosts Middlesbrough at the Emirates Stadium.
