There aren't many references to attach to your footballing CV that are better than an endorsement from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Benfica centre-back Victor Lindelof has emerged as a potential target for Manchester United and other leading clubs in Europe, and the Red Devils' charismatic frontman backs his compatriot to cut it at the top.

"I think Victor is doing great things, he is playing good for Benfica, he gets a lot of responsibility for the national team now, he is growing," Ibrahimovic told Stuart Mathieson of the Manchester Evening News.

"Is he good enough for United? I think he's good enough for the big clubs out there. It's up to him what he wants and what the situation says. Whatever he chooses will be good for him.

"I know he is hot on the market so let him make the right choice, what fits him good."

United manager Jose Mourinho is expected to dip into the January transfer market to improve the club's title credentials from its current sixth-place standing in the Premier League. The defence would appear to be the likeliest spot to strengthen, particularly due to the injuries to Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly.

United welcomes Feyenoord to Old Trafford in the fifth matchday of the Europa League group stage Thursday before returning to domestic duty with a visit from West Ham United on Sunday.
