Bobby Zamora hangs up boots after being released in summer

Bobby Zamora announced he's retiring from football Friday following his release from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer.

The striker made his first great strides in the game with the Seagulls, his relentless goal-scoring form in the lower echelons of the English game helping Brighton to back-to-back promotions to the second tier in 2000-01 and 2001-02.

He rejoined his old club in August 2015, but Brighton didn't renew his contract after the 35-year-old required hip surgery towards the end of the season.

Zamora also represented Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Fulham, and Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League, and although he represented the Hammers more than any other club, the high point of his career arguably came at Craven Cottage.

The rangy frontman was by no means prolific - he top-scored for Fulham in the league with just eight strikes - but his invaluable hold-up play in Roy Hodgson's system helped the London club make the 2009-10 season's Europa League final, taking notable scalps of Juventus and VfL Wolfsburg along the way.

These exploits helped win him two England caps under Fabio Capello, his first appearance coming as a half-time substitute against Hungary in August 2010.
