Report: Lukaku tells Everton he doesn't want to sign new contract
Romelu Lukaku is reportedly refusing to flip the hourglass.
According to The Telegraph's Chris Bascombe, Lukaku told Everton he doesn't want to sign a new contact and wishes to keep his options open rather than put pen to paper on an offer that would pay him £140,000 per week. The Belgian forward, whose deal expires in 2019, apparently met with the Toffees' officials Tuesday afternoon and informed them of his decision.
Mino Raiola, Lukaku's agent, said in February that his client would sign a new contract, declaring: "There are no problems right now between the player and the club. Talks are ongoing. He will sign." The representative also claimed a fresh deal was imminent in December, claiming: "With Everton, we have 99.9 percent reached terms."
There is allegedly a good relationship between all the parties involved, and Everton will be able to command a huge transfer fee should Lukaku, whose desire to play in the Champions League is no secret, request a move in the summer. The 23-year-old committed himself to the Toffees following Ronald Koeman's appointment, reportedly in the hope of winning trophies and a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Lukaku is the joint-top scorer in the Premier League this season, boasting 19 goals in 27 appearances.
