Watch: City survives after Mahrez's 2-touch penalty is waved off
Manchester City was handed a game-changing lifeline when Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez beat Willy Caballero to score a second-half penalty, only for referee Bobby Madley to wave off the effort for a spotted infringement.
Specifically, Mahrez was caught taking more than one touch to unleash his shot after slipping while approaching the ball. He shot with his left foot, but the ball then glanced off his right foot and the referee rightly called for an indirect free kick. City manager Pep Guardiola also spotted the infringement, putting up a pair of fingers to signify the two touches.
FIFA states, in Rule 14 of the Laws of the Game: "If, after the penalty kick has been taken: the kicker touches the ball again (except with his hands) before it has touched another player: an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team, the kick to be taken from the place where the infringement occurred."
The missed penalty ended a come-from-behind effort for the Foxes, as Shinji Okazaki had halved a two-goal deficit earlier in the second half with his drought-ending volley.
City held the 2-1 lead through 10 minutes of added time to take all three points from Leicester, with David Silva and Gabriel Jesus the heroes on the day.
