Report: Arsenal to sign Schalke's Kolasinac this summer
Arsenal will complete the free signing of Schalke's Sead Kolasinac when his contract expires this summer, according to Sky Sports, citing sources.
The left-back was apparently interesting Everton, Manchester City, and AC Milan, but the German-born Bosnia and Herzegovina international has chosen north London as his preferred destination.
Arsene Wenger's first choice on the left-hand side of a back four or at left wing-back is presently Nacho Monreal. The Spaniard has impressed in recent weeks, so the 23-year-old's expected arrival seems to indicate an exit for Kieran Gibbs, whose deal, like Kolasinac's, finishes June 30.
Somewhat at odds with how Wenger has deployed left-backs over much of his tenure at Arsenal, Kolasinac is perhaps more noted for his defensive contributions than his ability going forward. He's quick and can lace a ferocious shot, but favours a short pass and is a tough, disciplined defender.
His five assists in 25 league appearances would suggest some smart decision-making and decent vision in attack, though.
Kolasinac is part of a talented legion of youngsters who have progressed through the Schalke setup, and started against potential teammate Hector Bellerin in an international friendly with Spain in June.
